US Road Trip Epilog: 1st August 2005

In case you're puzzled why I'd choose a place like the Marietta Conference Center & Resort to stay, the simple answer is that it's the only place I could find within walking distance of both Marietta Radiator and the centre of town. After leaving the car at the former it's time to have a look at the latter.

The Marietta Welcome Center
The Marietta Welcome Center.

After a bit of dodging traffic, when sidewalks end in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of town, I find the Marietta Welcome Center. Though probably the only person in here all day, I'm obviously a nuisance as I'm interrupting the conversation between the two women who work here. Which is made very obvious. I was warned by Alex's friends that I may find Marietta a bit too uptight and conservative for my tastes, and it's proving to be true. Shame, because the town centre is actually very attractive. Most of the shops are closed on a Monday, as well, which doesn't help.

In the afternoon a phone call from Marietta Radiator confirms what I'd suspected - the radiator needs re-coring. I'm beginning to think that, after so many miles, maybe I know my car better than anyone else. It could be time to stop listening to 'experts' and trust my instincts a bit more.

In the afternoon and evening I'm very happy I went out and bought those speakers the other day. Rather than more mind-rotting TV - I've had my fill for now - I can enjoy some music. I don't know if the hallowed walls of this hotel have ever been treated to the Sex Pistols, Ramones and Quireboys. Somehow, though, I doubt it.
