US Road Trip Travelog: 3rd April 2005

The original route, as started on Friday, has been abandoned. Today starts straight back onto the I-15 and a 150 mile blast north. I'm not sure how far we're going to go today but I'd just like to get miles away from St. George. Not that it's a horrible place, but I've had enough of it.

The I-15 is fairly free and clear on a Sunday morning. It's great to be back on the road again, of that there can be no doubt.

Fishlake National Forest
Fishlake National Forest.

Off the I-15 and onto the I-70 for a sweeping drive through the forest. Something shocking happens along here, though, when we get overtaken by a car that may actually be older than the Riviera. This will be a first. I don't know what it is - it's a fairly ugly four door sedan with odd horizontal fins over each wheel - but the licence plate reads 'Slant 6'. The old guy driving it is fairly fast on the downhill stretches but the uphill bits see us sweep past. I'm not racing - it's just great to see another 60's car out there, either in front or in the mirror.

Highway 89 into Provo
Highway 89 into Provo.

Once off the I-70, Highway 89 is a fairly straight run with mountains on either side through a series of small towns. Nearer Provo itself, however, the roads twists and turns its way through the hills. On arrival in Provo there are a series of motels and I decide on a Holiday Inn for the night - it's not overly expensive, has a steakhouse attached, has smoking rooms (unlike the Super 8 in St. George) and also has internet access. That, for the moment, is all I need.
